This week, Donald Trump convened a “Social Media Summit” to gin up the trolls that fuel his alternative reality universe. But Trump is disturbed that the Twitter response is not what it used to be.

“I used to watch it like a rocket ship when I put out a beauty,” Mr. Trump said, waxing poetic about those early days running the Twitter account as president. Recounting a tweet accusing President Barack Obama of wiretapping his office, he said: “Remember I said somebody was spying on me? That was like a rocket.”

My sense is that the Donald show is getting a little long in the tooth. It’s not just Trump whose numbers are falling. According to Adweek, most of the cable news networks ratings have fallen by 20% compared to last year at this time. Sean Hannity was off 22% and Rachel Maddow was off 24%.

I suspect that, as the extraordinary survey called The Hidden Tribes of America points out, most of us are in the “Exhausted Majority”, not in the twitter tribes on both ends of the political spectrum.

Of course, Trump could win another four years, if the Democrats believe that AOC and the other Progressive Activists represent an electoral route to victory. The exhausted majority that represents 62% of the electorate is tired of Trump’s antics. Joe Biden may be too old to represent a new Democratic Party, but someone needs to appeal to the center left majority that is there for the picking.
